Book Signing Event with Trista Sutter at Swoozie’s Denver

Join us at our Swoozie’s Denver location for a book signing and appearance event with Trista Sutter, runner-up on Season One of the ABC reality television show The Bachelor and the star of the first season of its companion show The Bachelorette. Trista has also appeared on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and NBC’s Fear Factor.

Trista SutterTrista’s book, Happily Ever After, reminds readers that it’s the smallest gestures and the most unassuming things that can have the greatest effects. Trista is often asked her secret to being one of the rare reality-TV relationships to make it to the altar and beyond. In this heartfelt book, she shares the simple yet profound keys to finding everyday happiness: gratitude and grace. From the blink-and-you’ll-miss-them moments we have with our kids, our spouses, our pets, or even strangers, to the more obvious lessons we pick up from reading the news or hearing an inspirational story, knowing how to recognize, accept, and be grateful for all of our daily blessings is truly what “happily ever after” means.

Join us in stores for cocktails, book signing, and a meet and greet with Trista!

Politics? Let’s Get this Party Started!

With Election Day fast approaching, the Democratic and Republican parties agree – it’s time to party! You’ve listened to the debates, researched the candidates and now it’s nearly time to vote. Gather your friends and host an Election Day Political Party!

For a party filled with pomp & circumstance, here are a few tips for keeping it festive and politically-inspired!

Stick with a red, white & blue theme to keep it all-American. Add in flag-inspired elements like stars & stripes, or I used a tiny “Liberty” bell. Piles of red & blue books help add some height to the tablescape. In keeping with the American roots, a rustic wooden platter and silver touches also help to ring in the evening.

Keep the menu simple and all-American as well – chicken, veggies, roasted potatoes and apple pie – all in manageable portions. I used red & white muffin cups to have bite-sized nibbles of popcorn & peanuts so guests can mingle and check the TV throughout the evening. Mason jars filled with gumballs also help to add a touch of whimsy to the party. And, my “political punch” adds a burst of red!

The political items are so much fun to keep the spirit of the evening alive. Vote Obama and Vote Romney cups and napkins and D, R & Vote flags allow guests to keep the mood fun & light while cheering on their favorite candidate. The fabulous donkey & elephant ceramic plates add a nice touch to the classic display.

Are you hosting an Election Day party?

Introducing SouthernLeague Magazine!

Exciting things are always just around the corner, and you don’t have to go too far to find a fabulous new page-turner as we celebrate the launch of SouthernLeague Magazine!

Founder and editor, Christie Leigh Mueller, is a long-time friend of Swoozie’s and we are excited to support her in this new endeavor. She sat with us to share more on the magazine, and she joins us this Fall at several of our store locations so you can mix and mingle, enjoy a mint julep and take a look at the hot-off-the-press pages of SouthernLeague!

Click to see the list of upcoming events with SouthernLeague, and if you can’t make it, click to purchase a copy of your very own!

Here’s what Christie Leigh had to say about the magazine …..

Congrats on the launch of SouthernLeague! Tell us more.

Thanks!  It’s been a great adventure breaking into a relatively new market and creating a different publication.  So far SoLeague has received great reviews; we’re excited to keep selling and spreading the word.

What was your inspiration for SouthernLeague Magazine?

I wanted to create something that brought together Belles and Gents in the New South.  SouthernLeague is based on the philosophy of playing hard but working harder to make aspirations become realities. Creating the magazine was a chance to capitalize on the younger generation that inspires so much of the style, movement, and excitement around the south and of course, SEC football.

What has been the greatest thing about the new publication for you?

Reading what people send in about their thoughts, experiences, and adventures of being Southerners.  We love hearing and sharing people’s stories—from small businesses, to 6th generation Southerners—everyone has a story, and we have an outlet to share it.

What can we expect next from you & SouthernLeague?

We’re working toward printing more than once a year. It’s such an exciting process and there are so many things to cover on the topic of inspiring the New South. Assuming we sell out this year, you can look for us to print a few editions per year in the future!

The Enchanted Truth is the modern day fairy tale for grown-up girls everywhere. Filled with savvy one liners and quirky a-ha moments, the heroine in this fiery fable learns how to find her true hero, rather than waiting for happily-ever-after to meet her at the end of the aisle. Women everywhere will relate to this story no matter what stage of their life they are in- age 16 or 62.

Warning: If you find great pleasure in being a damsel in distress…this book is not for you!

Glitter Fudge Party!

Hi, Ya’ll! I’m glad to be swinging over from PIZZAZZERIE to share a super cute recipe + favor idea with Swoozie’s! If there is one thing I love, it’s anything SPARKLY! Now, it’s not often you see sparkling food is it? Well, this cute recipe is for GLITTER PARTY FUDGE! Yep, that’s right – glitter + fudge together = a match made in heaven.

I made this recipe in pink (another favorite of mine), but you can make it any color you want. Match your party colors, team colors for tailgates, holiday colors, etc. It’s super easy to customize this recipe to match just about any party theme or event.

GLITTER PARTY FUDGE  (Makes 45–50 fudge squares)
*adapted the sprinkle fudge in my book Candy Making For Kids

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 ⁄4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package pink candy melts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • Pink disco dust* (you can find it here)

Beat cream cheese until smooth and fluffy (electric mixer with paddle attachment). Gradually add powdered sugar and salt. Melt candy melts in microwavable bowl in 30-second intervals until smooth (or in double boiler). Pour into cream cheese mixture and beat until blended (about 2 minutes on medium). Stir in extracts. Spread fudge mixture into 9 x 9-inch pan (quickly spray pan with nonstick cooking spray). Refrigerate until chilled and then cut into squares or use cookie cutters for fun shapes. Pour a small amount of disco dust in a small bowl. Dip fudge pieces into disco dust. Sprinkle excess off.
*Disco Dust is non-toxic but considered for “decorative” use. Someone will inevitably say “it’s not edible”. Well, I would not let children eat this decorative glitter by the spoonful but adding a little sparkle to your fudge? No problem. It was created for the baking industry.

Serve up this glitter party fudge as a sweet favor at a baby shower (think pink for girl’s or blue for boy’s) or birthday party. It makes a deliciously sweet and sparkly favor idea. I love pairing black and white stripes with a bold color so I popped a little glitter fudge piece down into little black and white striped treat bags. Fold over and tie with a big pink bow (bows make everything better). Set these in a little basket or on a tray as guests leave for a sweet favor idea. Or display them on a pretty white cake stand, your choice! Either way, your guests will be wowed when they see sparkling sweet fudge!

Enjoy this recipe + happy partying!

Swoozie’s Featured by The Broke Socialite During Book Release!

Congratulations to our fabulous friend Shameeka Ayers (aka The Broke Socialite) on the launch of her very first book Instantly! How Quickly I Realized I HATE My Job. The book tells the story of two co-workers, Nia and Harper, as they bond over their hatred of their oh-so dreadful workplace.

Swoozie’s likes entrepreneurs and respects what Shameeka has done. Combining her love of marketing and social media, Shameeka created her alter ego, blog and brand, The Broke Socialite, and has been conducting the national series of fabulous dessert tours call Sugar Coma Events.

We were there to celebrate with her on Tuesday at her book launch, along with some special Swoozie’s goodies. Going with the theme of her book, the orange “Instantly!” sticky note an inspiration, Shameeka selected personalized napkins featuring a quote from the book, orange + white paper straws, and there were even a few Dammit Dolls to giveaway to let out some workplace frustration, of course!

Now that her first book has been released we’ve decided to join the party. We’re honored to have Shameeka with us to do a special book signing and reading to kick off her nationwide book tour. The first signing will be at the Swoozie’s Atlanta location on July 10th  {click here to RSVP!} with dates for more Swoozie’s locations to be released soon.

If you have EVER disliked a job, loathed sitting in a cubicle, or just need a fun summer read, than this book is for you! Don’t miss your chance to meet and listen to the hilarious Shameeka at a Swoozie’s near you!
